DIDACTIC PROGRAM

FACULTY OF EDUCATION STUDIES

Our Education Studies curriculum guides students through the learning process towards in-depth knowledge, and provides them with skills enabling a better understanding of man and of the world forming his environment. Our graduates are prepared to provide a range of high quality professional services in the sector of education, for youth and child care centers dedicated to the development, education and care of youths, for specialized counseling centers and health centers, under crime prevention programs, and within the judicial system.

Core and Specialized Learning Content

Undergraduate Program: History of Educational Thought, Theoretical Foundations of Education; Social Pedagogy, Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology, Education Concepts and Systems;

Graduate Program: Adult Learning Theory, General Education Studies, Comparative Education Studies, Teacher Education (Pedeutology), Cultural Anthropology, Logic, Social Research Methodology, Contemporary Concepts of Philosophy and Ethics, Contemporary Issues in Sociology and Psychology.

MAJOR PROFILES

Elementary (Preschool and Early School) Education

Curriculum - concentration courses: child psychology in the elementary years, assessment of child development, designing lesson plans on various subjects. Our graduates are competent deliverers and facilitators of the educational process based on an integrated curriculum and thematic teaching units, well prepared to cooperate with the local communities, and  to carry out compensatory education classes and socio-therapeutic programs facilitating child development in the elementary years.

Careers: Our graduates perform very well in a variety of institutions delivering pre-school education, in elementary schools (where they work with pupils in their first, second and third year at school), or in any other institutions involved in child care and early education programs.

Mentally Handicapped Education

Curriculum - concentration courses: developmental theory and developmental disorders, mental retardation diagnosis and therapy, introduction to effective planning and implementation of the rehabilitation of intellectually handicapped students.

Careers: Our graduates are “job ready” faculty members competent to teach intellectually handicapped students attending mainstream schools adapted to provide inclusive education, as well as integrated and special education schools.

Child and Family Studies

Curriculum - concentration courses: methodology of foster parenting, forms of family-based child care, legal basis for childhood care, education, and child-rising, behaviour disorders in children, Child Care Study; development of strategies in education and animation facilitating child development and equalization of his/her cultural and educational opportunities.

Careers: Our graduates are well prepared to deliver competent professional work as care providers in day care centers, in youth emergency shelters, in therapeutic foster care or group homes; in schools, as school-based educators.

Labour Market Studies

Curriculum - concentration courses: human resources management, research methods and work planning methods (description of the work process), introduction to organizational behaviour analysis, assessment and forecasting.

Careers: Our graduates are “job ready” labour analysts, personal consultants, recruitment officers, vocational coaching experts, labour exchange experts, and payroll experts.

Crime Prevention and Rehabilitation

Curriculum - concentration courses: early intervention in crime prevention and criminal rehabilitation, psycho-educational support to at-risk individuals and social groups, preparatory instruction in criminal etiology and dysfunctional upbringing, individual and group rehabilitation programs.

Careers: Our graduates are well prepared to meet the challenges of working within the criminal rehabilitation and correction system (including schools, courts, youth rehabilitation centers, youth care shelters, youth correctional facilities, penal institutions, addiction recovery centers,  social and community support institutions, emergency shelters).

Methodology of Teaching Foreign Languages (part-time courses of study for teachers of English, German or Russian taught as a second language)

Curriculum - concentration courses: educational psychology courses and current theories of foreign language teaching; development and consolidation of all the language skills acquired under the Undergraduate Program.

Careers: Our graduates are all holders of a bachelor degree in Education Studies maintaining their competence to practise as foreign language teachers in accordance with their previous qualifications earned in compliance with the Regulation of the Minister of National Education of 12th March, 2009.

Elementary Education and Foreign Language Teaching in the Elementary Years (part-time courses of study for teachers of foreign languages)

Curriculum - concentration courses: Educational Psychology courses related to early education; Glottodidactics (language education); educative (formative) assessment, planning, organizing, implementation and evaluation (summative assessment) of the educational process on the level of preschool and early school education (based on an integrated curriculum and thematic teaching units for primary pupils in their first, second and third year at school).

Careers: Our graduates manage very well in nursery and elementary schools where they work with pupils in their first, second and third year at school, including as foreign language teachers.

General Education Studies

Curriculum - concentration courses: General Education subjects, History and Philosophy courses, Sociology and Psychology related subjects, introduction to educative (formative) assessment and to educational interpretation respecting individual- and group-focused educational processes.

Careers: Our graduates are “job ready” school-based educators (including those employed in a broad range of educational institutions other then schools), and competent teachers/caregivers providing care and educational assistance to children in campus-based schools.

General Education Studies (for holders of "licencjat" degrees with no background in pedagogy)

Curriculum - concentration courses: Education Studies; selected issues in contemporary Psychology, Philosophy, Ethics, Sociology and Cultural Anthropology; contemporary educational systems; preparatory instruction in Child Care and Education work.

Careers: Our graduates are able to effectively assess educational phenomena and situations, and to perform well as facilitators of individual and group development. They have all the formal qualifications required for employment in a variety of educational and cultural institutions.

Health Studies (Health Education and Promotion)

Curriculum - concentration courses: Education Studies and the major ancillary subjects; theoretical foundations of health education and health promotion, shaping pro-health attitudes, introduction to effective planning, implementation and evaluation of health education and prevention actions respecting various aspects of health, and to teaching health education and health promotion programs.

Careers: Our graduates are well prepared to effectively perform tasks related to health education and health promotion in an educational environment. Their qualifications enable them to find employment in schools, and in social welfare, health, and specialized guidance centers.

Other courses – taught as a continuation of the Majors covered by the Undergraduate Program offered at the Faculty of Education Studies

Such a continuation is possible should it be in compliance with the educational offer of the Faculty of Education Studies.

POSTGRADUATE NON-DEGREE PROGRAM: QUALIFYING COURSES (3 TERMS)

for holders of BA and/or MA degrees

Elementary Education and Foreign Language Teaching in the Elementary Years (for teachers of foreign languages)

Curriculum - concentration courses: Education Studies, Psychology, Glottodidactics (language education), issues respecting the acquisition of a foreign language by children, workshops. This program leads to obtaining a qualification for teaching positions required to teach foreign languages to young learners on the preschool and elementary school levels.

Careers: Our graduates are “job-ready” faculty members competent to deliver and facilitate preschool and early elementary education processes based on an integrated curriculum and thematic teaching units, including in public and private sector institutions offering early childhood foreign language education.

Elementary (Preschool and Early School) Education

Curriculum - concentration courses: Education Studies, Psychology, methods of teaching by subject area; instruction in the organization and implementation of the educational process based on an integrated curriculum, cooperation with the local community, and carrying out compensatory education classes and socio-therapeutic programs facilitating child development in the elementary years.

Careers: Our graduates are well prepared to work in institutions delivering pre-school education, in elementary schools (where they work with pupils in their first, second and third year at school), and in other institutions involved in child care and early education programs.

Mentally Handicapped Education

Curriculum - concentration courses:  developmental disorders, diagnosis and alleviation (therapy) of mental disorders, education methods tailored towards persons with lowered mental capabilities, introduction to planning and implementation of the rehabilitation of intellectually handicapped students.

Careers: Our graduates are “job ready” faculty members competent to teach intellectually handicapped students attending special education and care schools, schools implementing integrated education for the disabled, or mainstream schools adapted to provide inclusive education.

Program for teachers with no formal training in pedagogy

Curriculum - concentration courses: Education Studies, Psychology, methodology of teaching, methods of teaching by subject area; Curricular Practical Training for will-be teachers (150 contact hours), theory and practical instruction in proper planning, development and implementation of teaching/education assignments.

Careers: Our graduates are “job-ready” faculty members competent to deliver teaching on the primary, lower secondary and secondary school levels according to the original (subject-focused) qualifications held by each of them, in compliance with the relevant provisions of the educational law. 

Safety Education

Curriculum - concentration courses: emergency response psychology; public safety and its protection; safety and security threats and hazards during wartime and during peacetime, national defense system and the armed forces of the Republic of Poland, basics of emergency medical and sanitation services, emergency response rules, safety education, and civil defense readiness with a special focus on youths.

Careers: Our graduates are well prepared to teach Safety Education to students in lower secondary and secondary schools.

Educational Therapy (for Educators and Teachers)

Curriculum - concentration courses: educational therapy, diagnosis of developmental disorders and learning disabilities in children, therapeutic methods and methodology (child-centered, family-focused intervention), preparatory instruction in delivering compensatory education classes, therapeutic programs, and psycho-educational therapies.

Careers: Our graduates are competent professionals delivering special education programs in nursery schools, schools, foster care and group homes, and in educational and psychological counseling centers.

Child Care and Preschool Education

Curriculum - concentration courses: Education Studies and major ancillary subjects, nurturing literacy with toddlers, basics of childhood hygiene, childhood nutrition, preparatory instruction in early childhood stimulation and development of children’s creativity, with a consideration given to supporting each individual child’s pace of development.

Careers: Our graduates are “job-ready” faculty members of nursery schools and primary schools with nursery or reception classes. Also, they are fully qualified to work as child care providers in day care centers, in school and after school clubs, at holiday camps, in health resorts, and in hospitals.

Early Childhood Intervention

Curriculum - concentration courses: organization of specialized support service for children with mental deficiencies; standards respecting the amount and the quality of stimulation available in the child’s environment, and work with the child’ family; diagnostic methods and assessment of individual developmental needs, methods of designing individually tailored therapeutic programs; selected therapeutic methods.

Careers: Our graduates are well prepared to conduct diagnostic and therapeutic programs in educational institutions (from /nursery/ schools through specialized foster care and therapeutic group homes to  educational and psychological counseling centers).
